HE detergent washers vs. non-HE detergent washers: what’s the difference?
You might have heard the term “high-efficiency” a lot lately and you might have seen HE detergent in the grocery store and wondered if you should be using it in your washing machine. What exactly is an HE washing machine and does it require HE detergent?
The simplest way to determine if your washer requires HE detergent is to look for this symbol.
This indicates that you need to use HE detergent to keep your washer running smoothly.
HE comes in top load and front load: how do HE washers clean?
Today you can find HE washers in top-load and front-load models. Both top-load agitator, top-load impeller models and front-load HE washers use high-efficiency detergent only. This detergent is designed to work with lower water levels to deliver a thorough clean for your family’s clothes.
Keep in mind that you will see less water in the tub with a high efficiency top-load or front-load washer. That’s because high-efficiency washers use less water than older machines, saving 6,000 gallons of water per year for an average family, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
High-efficiency washers may be something to consider if your family is looking for ways to help save resources on laundry day.
